The surface retains all original bluing, marked ab on the item and 41 ASW on the scabbard. The Bakelite grips are undamaged. Twin Waffenamt stamps are present on the upper pommel, with light indentations to the backstrap consistent with historical use. The lower ball of the scabbard and the sprung loaded rifle retaining mechanism are also Waffenamt stamped.
